What libraries are open in Oakland?
The Main Library (125 14th St) will be open seven days a week; 15 neighborhood branches will be open six days per week and until 8:00 p.m. two nights per week. In addition, the African American Museum and Library at Oakland (AAMLO) and Oakland History Center (OHC) will be available for in-person visits and browsing.

What happened to Oakland’s libraries?
Since the 1990s, Oakland has patched together funding for its libraries out of the general fund and special parcel taxes. 1978’s Proposition 13 decimated city revenues, and during the 1980s and 1990s, Oakland’s tax base was further damaged by a declining population, stagnant property values, and the relocation of major employers out of the city.
